GorioEats: Top food choices when in Baguio

I was excited to go back to what I can say my second home, Baguio City. This time I have Mon as my companion who is celebrating his big day in the city of pines. Making this a memorable trip as this would be his first time in the city.

We were supposed to take the Victory Liner Bus going to Baguio. Unfortunately seats were sold as early as of 12midnight. The next available ticket will be at 6am. There was also a very long line for the ‘Chance’ passengers. There were also these guys holding little placards before the entrance to the terminal filling up a van going to Baguio. I must say that we were tempted to take it. Though it might not be such a good choice as they will be filling it up until the last seat is taken. This would leave little room or space to stretch considering the long hour drive going to Baguio. We then tried to look for other buses that can accommodate us.Luckily we got a seat at North Genesis also in Cubao, Q.C. We left for Quezon City at around 1:30am and arrived in the cold weather of Baguio at 6am.

Now here’s a quick rundown of how we enjoyed the cool breeze in Baguio :

Colorful and vibrant.

Tom kha gai is a traditional thai chicken soup which has lemon grass, cilantro, fresh ginger in fresh coconut milk is a hearty soup to start the meal. Mon ordered for Seafood Veggie (P150). Crisp and fresh vegetables with slices of squid and shrimp makes this vibrant dish a sure fire winner. Now mine was ordered in Canto just across Happy Tummy. Lomo Ribs(P209) (half Slab). Grilled pork ribs served with caesar salad and a cup of rice or mashed potato. The salad green has watermelon which is a refreshing contrast to the meat while peanut brittle is sprinkled on top that interestingly add texture to it..

Oh MY Gulay

5th floor La Azotea Building, Session Road Baguio City

Lumpia Salad consisted of crispy tofu rolls on a bed of mixed greens tossed in honey mustard and asian dressing. I love how interesting the salad was plated and how the fried tofu played well in a bed of greens. Pasta is called Anak ng Putanesca. We paid a hefty P500 inclusive of a 10% VAT just for this meal. It is quite an experience to dine in this artsy restaurant with all the lush greens. A cool place to hang out during night. A must try for all vegetarians out there. The interiors has a rustic feel plus artsy decor.

“It feels like I am eating on wooden benches, in an enclosed forested area with small pond, on top of a building, overlooking the city. Simply exquisite!.” – Mon Silao

We’re capping the night in a trip to the farthest location for some beer tasting. You may opt to ask to try the beers first before purchasing a mug. “Beer tasting.”

Baguio is well-known for their strawberries, so I definitely wanted to try the Lagud Strawberry Beer (ABV: 5.4%). With its distinct fruity flavor, this was pretty sweet and easy to drink. Mon tried Rolling Fog(ABV: 6.1%)which tastes like Hoegaarden. On the second floor a view deck is available giving you a glimpse of the city lights at night. Perfect for hang out with your favorite drinking buddies.

Beer: P170 each

There are still a lot to discover in this city of pines. These are just a few of the most visited and new ones.

Until my next post!
